OT for Teens and Young Adults
Most people are aware of the impact that OT can have for neonates, toddlers and children up to the age of 10 and assume that if intervention has not been received at this age, then improvement in schooling, fine motor skills, sensory processing and socioemotional skills is going to be limited. Newer research has shown that neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to wire and re-wire itself) continues throughout our lifetime, and that there is always room to improve. Although the way that OT is delivered changes its approach for teens and young adults, the goals of treatment remain to improve functioning in studies, ability to cope in a learning environment, play and socialise appropriately, cope with increasingly complex conflict, stress and anxiety and manage demanding sensory environments and learning to thrive in these. We offer OT services aimed at addressing these goals, improving confidence and mastery in their lives, setting them up for a bright future ahead!
